Traditional bunk beds feature two beds, one on top of the other, separated by a gap of about a meter, usually with a built in ladder to reach the top bunk and railings to stop children falling out of the top bunk.  Usually bunk beds have two single mattresses one on top of the other, though you can also choose from many other options to suit your child or children’s' needs. 
 
When you are looking for a kid's bed to sleep two children, bunk beds are the most obvious choice.  Two traditional children's beds in one bedroom can take up a lot of floor space leaving your children with little room to play, however a bunk bed doesn't take up any more floor space than one single bed.  One bunk bed is also usually more cost effective than buying two single beds, and some styles of bunk bed can be taken apart so that if you move to a larger house or your kids get fed up or too big for bunk beds, they can each have a single.
